THE UFO STORY HAS LEFT THE BASEMENT — NOW ABC NEWS IS SERVING THE ORBS

Something changed in the last 24 hours, and it wasn’t the UFO.
It was the audience.
The Pentagon’s fifth PURSUE release, originally posted on August 7, 2026, has now broken decisively out of the usual UFO/UAP ecosystem and into broader mainstream circulation. EarthSky published a fresh breakdown on August 12, while ABC World News Tonight amplified the new Pentagon material across its national platforms. �

That matters because Release 05 contains 41 files: 16 videos, 22 documents and three images drawn from the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, State Department and Executive Office of the President. The government says the archive contains unresolved cases and explicitly cautions that unresolved can simply mean insufficient data—not extraterrestrials arriving late for dinner. �

But one case is proving especially sticky.
During a September 8, 2021 live-fire exercise over the Gulf of Oman, an intelligence report says personnel observed roughly 25 UAP incidents. The objects were described as “cold orbs,” about four feet across, moving at estimated speeds between 250 and 1,300 mph and maneuvering in formations. The report further states that some appeared to react when an AC-130J fired its cannon. Six videos connected to that event are included in the current release. �

Verified: those statements appear in officially released material.
Not verified: that the objects were alien craft, non-human technology, secret weapons or anything else sufficiently sexy to justify a $29.95 commemorative plate.
The skeptical position remains reasonable: infrared footage is notoriously vulnerable to range uncertainty, parallax, sensor artifacts and incomplete context. The Pentagon itself says these files remain unresolved partly because sufficient data may not exist. �

The opposing view is equally worth hearing: multiple objects, military sensors, repeated observations and reported reaction to live weapons fire deserve serious examination rather than a bureaucratic shrug with excellent dental coverage. �

No major new AARO ruling or congressional action has overtaken this story in the same 24-hour window; AARO’s public page remains centered on existing releases, while MUFON’s public news stream has not produced a comparably significant fresh case. �

Here is the real story.
The UFO has not become more mysterious.
It has become more mainstream.
ABC carries it. Science sites dissect it. Reddit multiplies it. YouTube embalms it in thumbnails. X converts uncertainty into scripture before lunch.
That is Magic Pop at work: government disclosure enters the machine as raw information and exits as mythology, entertainment, outrage and identity.
The danger isn’t believing too much.
The danger isn’t skepticism either.
The danger is letting the algorithm decide which uncertainty you are permitted to inhabit.
FMPU says keep the UFO unidentified until the evidence earns something better.
And keep your hand on your wallet while everybody else explains what you saw.

Information about Gary McKinnon's UFO findings

FMPU has followed the Gary McKinnon case since it first broke. The Scottish pothead computer hacker claims to have viewed government information that was classified. Several rumors abound as in the linked blog post claims to have all the "inside scoop" -- which is, in fact, inside poop. The most revealing part of the article is that Gary used a dial-up modem to perform the hacks into the NASA’s Johnson’s space center website, where he collected/viewed sensitive data - but he was unable to perform saves on the most critical information (pictures of cigar shaped UFOs).  Drats. The rest seems like speculation, though over there at the Open Minds article it reads a bit differently.  As if you have time right?
