WIRED's report on Verifact Markets⁠� describes a new beta project called Verifact Markets that turns contested historical propositions into tradeable markets. Instead of “Who wins the election?”, users can trade propositions involving questions such as the origins of COVID-19 or the circumstances of Jeffrey Epstein's death. Here's the crucial guardrail: market consensus does not determine historical truth. Verifact says its eventual resolutions will incorporate evidence through a proprietary research process rather than simply declaring whichever side attracts the most money correct. But that resolution methodology is presently opaque, and the project has no demonstrated accuracy record. �
