Coming in 2013: Comet Ison

So the big news is that a comet will come near Earth in 2013 and put on a spectacular show for all to enjoy.  This is no doomsday prediction, or prophecy, this is the real deal, and with no threat to our planet.  It's something to look forward to and will be certain to send shock-waves of interest.

Here's a bit from the article:

By the end of summer it will become visible in small telescopes and binoculars. By October it will pass close to Mars and things will begin to stir. The surface will shift as the ice responds to the thermal shock, cracks will appear in the crust, tiny puffs of gas will rise from it as it is warmed. The comet's tail is forming.
Slowly at first but with increasing vigour, as it passes the orbit of Earth, the gas and dust geysers will gather force. The space around the comet becomes brilliant as the ice below the surface turns into gas and erupts, reflecting the light of the Sun. Now Ison is surrounded by a cloud of gas called the coma, hundreds of thousands of miles from side to side. The comet's rotation curves these jets into space as they trail into spirals behind it. As they move out the gas trails are stopped and blown backwards by the Solar Wind.
By late November it will be visible to the unaided eye just after dark in the same direction as the setting Sun. Its tail could stretch like a searchlight into the sky above the horizon. Then it will swing rapidly around the Sun, passing within two million miles of it, far closer than any planet ever does, to emerge visible in the evening sky heading northward towards the pole star. It could be an "unaided eye" object for months. When it is close in its approach to the Sun it could become intensely brilliant but at that stage it would be difficult and dangerous to see without special instrumentation as it would be only a degree from the sun.

Another Gratuitous Shooting Post (CT)

These shooting stories have lost their novelty but they haven't lost their apparent impact.  Or have they?   It seems like the first thing I read about this story raised the same flags we just put down.  So how far can you take it before being taken to a mental institution to get your head checked.  The media has made the people in my family ragers for a long long time, but this was just a perfect December story.

Mind you, I usually get the outlandish (and downright horrifying) initial news break.  I usually get them on the radio. Which then quickly shifts to top stories on Yahoo, Drudgereport (and Drudge!) and a couple other looks into the mainstream news.  This then gives way to some of the message boards and comment threads, which inevitably leads to Youtube, and downwards to the lowlifes (my friends) on social networks.

Well as the facts are trickling in (BTW, you'll notice at a somewhat slower pace than other 2012 shootings and "out there" incidents,) it's difficult to find anything to trust.  With the state of trolls on the net having made their impact (Don't believe a thing you read here or anywhere!) your guess is as good as mine but do take notice of the stranger aspects or details of the Connecticut shootings.

The last thing I'd do after losing a loved one would be to give a press conference.  That may not be the case with you or anyone else, for that matter -- but this video (the dude sounds more scared than emotionally destroyed... just an observation) could either have some truth or none and still it drives me to think a little more...

After spending days on end thinking these matters, you know, mass shootings and the like, I came to an agreement in my mind that this is why the shootings happened if you were to be talking to Adam Lanza.

Adam Lanza was in quite an extraordinary position.  Son of a wealthy family with a dad, if what information available on him is to be assumed correct, with a position of power at G.E.

Now it's just a presumption, but I have to wrap this up because I'm done thinking on it...

Suppose he and his autistic self became enmeshed in the world of hacking, or possibly he became an internet troll.  Obviously he has a trail of some kind behind on the internet that we'll probably never see.  Maybe Adam, already twisted by his parent's separation, decided he could make a difference in how he felt would be the biggest lesson he could conceive in his mind.  Kill his mom, and then rage at a school.  Leaving his financially powerful dad in a life of guild.

Nah.  Scratch that.  Not even that comes close to the truth, but that only takes me two steps back.  Shit, this story is somehow more confusing, but less interesting than those other shootings.  How'd they do that?

Who is on their way to Mount Rtanj?

That's right folks.  You can save yourself from the upcoming apocalypse by taking a trip to the wonderfully spacious, and allegedly apocalypse-friendly vacation pyramid in Serbia.  Reservations for Mount Rtanj is filling up, so pick up the phone now!

From an ABC report:

Their theory is that Mt Rtanj's pyramidal structure which rises 5,400 feet (1.656 meters) in the Serbian Carpathian Mountains was shaped by aliens many thousands of years ago, and that it will radiate a force field that will protect everyone in its vicinity from the end-of-the-world disaster.
The legend has drawn hundreds from the region as well as Austrians, French as well as Australians.
There are several problems for these fear-filled folks, including the fact that so many have flocked to Rtanj that hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts are booked solid and overflowing.

San Francisco UFO

Well, there's no business like the UFO business!  Now San Francisco chimes in with a video that shows a light formation over the city's Mission District. Uber good or uber lame?

The Geminid Meteors are Coming!

A lot of us are relieved because the Leonid's was an awful letdown. Geminid peaks on Thursday, December 13, so get that telescope out and stare at the sky later this week!

"Nibiru Was Diverted" - Captain Bill

Shock 12-21-12 (doomsday/enlightenment) news from the Atlanticobr camp today as their "leader," Captain Bill, proclaimed that "The system Nibiru was diverted to a route of lesser effect" (though we should still be on the lookout for residuals).   That's good news to those who bought in early on the Clippers' future which I was able to get at 23-1 during pre-season.  Don't hate, celebrate.

A Random (Anonymous) Message to Alex Jones

Say what you might about talk show host Alex Jones and perhaps it is a sign of the time, but the tide has been appearing to recoil and move outward for his career. Depending on what you listen to or watch, you may or may not have been finding the power of his message to appear to have already peaked a couple years back. Back around Obama's entrance into the Oval Office, Alex owned the conspiracy airwaves. Now, almost everyone in the business has an opinion on the chubby dj. And now more than ever before, I have been hearing the meme that Jones is possibly an "agent" (not sure which type...) or the dig of choice which seems to be that he is a disinformation pusher. To be perfectly honest, since his whole tirade on FEMA camps, I have found the man boring and, unless the topic is specifically a topic I find interesting, regardless of a person's talking points, he's been virtually un-listenable. When it is a topic I find interesting, he often misses critical information. This was particularly true, IMO, in the way he's covered a lot of major stories in 2012 such as the James Holmes situation. So what is it, Alex? You a disinfo kinda guy?
